Usage :
1). V-느라고 is a little negative in nature.
2). 의지 : 하려고 생각해서 했어요.(think to do it)
: 하려고 한 것이 아니에요.(don’t think to do it)
- 감기에 걸리다, 기침이 나다, 넘어지다, 알다, 모르다, 일어나다, 도둑이 오다, 지갑을 잃어버리다, 시간이 없다, 길을 잃버리다, 사고가 나다.
3). The subject in both clauses must be same. ( [S] use with only : 사람,동물)
4). Verb preceding –느라고 is always in present tense.
5). The shortened form V-느라 can also be used.
6). The last sentence of V-느라고 can’t use with (으)ㄹ래요,(으)래요,(으)ㄹ까요?,(으)세요,(으)ㅂ시다.
7). The last sentence of V-느라고always use with -지 않다, -지 못 하다, 바쁘다, 힘들다, 정신이 없다.
2. Examples:
1) 하려고 한 것이 아니에요.(don’t think to do it)
1 - 사고가 나느라고 회사에 지각했어요.(X)
- 사고가 나는 바람에 회사에 지각했어요. (O)
This book will be easy for foreign students to read.
2 - 어제는 지갑을 잃어버리느라고 옷을 못 샀어요. (X)
- 어제는 지갑을 잃어버리는 바람에 옷을 못 샀어요.(O)
- I lost my wallet yesterday, so I couldn't buy clothes

- 토이씨는 샤워하느라고 세준씨는 전화를 못 받았아요. (X)
- 토이씨는 샤워하느라고 토이씨는 전화를 못 받았아요. (O)
- Toy couldn't answer the phone because he was taking a shower.

- 안아 씨는 TV를 봤느라고 속제를 못 했어요. (X)
- 안아 씨는 TV를 보느라고 속제를 못 했어요.(O)
- Mr. Anah was too busy watching TV.
4). V-느라고 can’t use with (으)ㄹ래요,(으)래요,(으)ㄹ까요?,(으)세요,(으)ㅂ시다.
- 손님이 오느라고 아무데도 가지 마세요.(X)
- 손님이 오니까 아무데도 가지 마세요.(O)
- Don't go anywhere because you have guests.
5). V-느라고always use with-지 않다, -지 못 하다, 바쁘다, 힘들다, 정신이 없다.
- 요즘 아르바이트를 하느라고 힘들어요.
These days I'm have a hard time because I' m working part-time job.
- 어젯밤에 게음을 하느라고 숙제를 하지 못했어요.
I couldn't do my homework last night because I was playing the game.
3. More Example :
1. 음악을 듣느라고 전화를 못 받았어요.
- I couldn't answer the phone because I was listening to music.
2. 요즐 아르바이트를 하느라고 너무 힘들어요.
- I'm having a hard time with my part-time job these days.
3. 선물을 사느라고 약속 시간이 늦었어요.
- I was late for the appointment because I was buying a present.
4. 시험이 보느라고 전화를 못 받았어요.
- I couldn't answer the phone because I was taking an exam.
5. 친구와 밥을 먹느라고 드라마를 못 봤어요.
- I couldn't watch the drama because I was eating with my friend.
6. 케이크를 만드느라고 밀가루를 다 썼어요.
- I used up all the flour to make the cake.
7. 친구와 여기저기 돌아다니느라고 5시간 된 줄 몰랐어요.
- I didn't know it's been 5 hours since I was walking around with my friend.
8. 어머니 일를 돕느라고 늦게 왔어요.
- I came late to help my mother with her work.
9. 옷을 많이 사느라고 돈이 다 썼어요.
- I spent all my money because I bought a lot of clothes.
